Truth, Freedom, and ICE out of MN

This Friday, January 23 we join our community in calling for a state-wide day of truth, freedom, and ICE out of Minnesota: no work, no shopping, and no school.

The premise of Friday is simple - we will not consent to or participate in business as usual while ICE terrorizes our communities. Here’s how you can show up, disrupt, and build power with your community:

📣 Protest: March with your neighbors in downtown Minneapolis at 2 p.m., starting at 425 Portland Ave.

🪢 Connect: Many businesses will be closed for business, but open for community food drives. Many organizations will be hosting meetings and actions to help community members connect, skill up, and build power:

💗 Support: Continue meeting and sharing your neighbor’s calls for mutual aid. Get plugged in through the Minneapolis Mutual Aid Linktree and StandWithMinnesota.org. Follow local leaders like Jason Chavez for ongoing updates and calls for support.

📞 Advocate: Take some time on Friday to call on elected officials and corporations to stand with community against ICE’s occupation of Minnesota:

  • Governor Tim Walz has the power to enact an eviction moratorium, so our immigrant neighbors don’t have to choose between making rent and being separated from their families. Call his office and ask him to protect our communities and enact an immediate eviction moratorium: (651)201-3400‬.

  • Minnesota Targets have been allowing ICE agents to stage in their parking lots and abduct their employees. Call Target Chair & CEO Brian Cornell and ask him to stop cooperating with ICE: (612)304-6073.

  • Hilton hotels continue to allow ICE agents to stay on their properties. Call Hilton President and CEO Christopher Nassetta and ask him to stop housing ICE: (703)883-1000

  • Enterprise has been renting the cars that ICE is using to kidnap our neighbors. Call Enterprise President & CEO Chrissy Taylor and ask her to stop supporting ICE: (314)512-5000

  • Show up in person to raise your voice with Minnesota 50501 and call for an end to deportation flights from Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. Friday, 1/23 at 10:00 a.m.

Minnesota’s history of labor power and solidarity runs deep. From the 1934 Teamsters strike to the 2019 Amazon walk-offs, we are a people who know our power, and who know how to show up together so we can win big for each other.  As COPAL shares in their pledge to pause participation in daily economic life as an act of care, courage, and solidarity; “together, we will send a clear message: We are the economy. Our dignity matters. Fear will not define us.”

In solidarity,
