Education Equity

Building Education Equity with parents and youth at the center of solution making.

We have a vision of education that recognizes the power of parents and youth in shaping the future of our education system in transformative ways. Our approach is rooted in both organizing in collaboration through coalitions and uplifting parent leadership through our organizing training cohort.

The Education Equity Parent Fellowship is a BIPOC centered shared learning space that focuses on racial and healing justice honoring culture, history, and traditions of communities of color. This cohort training model celebrates the voices, power, knowledge and organizing of parents and guardians advocating for their students in school. The Fellowship happens yearly, following the school calendar.

Graduates of our Education Equity Parent Fellowship have advanced their leadership skills as equity liaisons, teachers, Education Support Professional of the year, and have been appointed to advisory boards and policy coalitions. Other successes include:

  • Two Alumni ran for and were appointed to the Saint Paul Public School Board and the North Saint Paul School Board

  • Eight Alumni have moved on from completing our Train the Trainers curriculum to becoming facilitators of the Voices for Racial Justice Education Equity Curriculum

  • Parent Fellowship Alumni continue to work on the Teachers of Color Act

  • Fellows successfully interrupted the school-to-prison pipeline and organized opposition to the Joint Powers Agreement between Ramsey County, Saint Paul, and the Saint Paul Public Schools

  • Legislation for the Student Inclusion and Engagement Act (SEIA)

Education Equity Parent Fellowship applications will reopen Summer 2024.
